Club ZZYZX is Malate's answer to the question of where to dance. The venue has the size and infrastructure to deliver a genuine club experience, which is not something every Manila neighborhood can offer.
The main dance floor is spacious enough for maybe 150 people, with the DJ booth elevated on a platform and LED panels cycling through patterns behind it. The mezzanine wraps around three sides of the room, providing elevated seating and a view of the floor below. On a Saturday night, the venue was full by midnight, with the dance floor packed and the mezzanine hosting groups with bottle service.
The DJ was skilled, reading the crowd and shifting between genres fluidly. A house music set transitioned into hip-hop, then into OPM remixes that got the Filipino contingent singing along while dancing. The sound system handled the transitions well, with clean bass and clear mids.
The crowd was 90 percent Filipino, mostly in their early twenties. Groups of friends, couples on dates, and a bachelorette party occupied most of the tables. As a foreigner, I received friendly attention but no hassle. Two Filipino women at the bar struck up a conversation that was social and normal, not transactional.
Beer at 80 to 100 PHP and cocktails at 150 to 250 PHP are reasonable for a nightclub. The 200 PHP cover includes a drink. ZZYZX delivers a legitimate nightclub experience in a neighborhood better known for its entertainment industry venues. If dancing is what you want, this is where to find it in Malate.
