Mister Hu
Mister Hu is an Asian-inspired cocktail bar on Goltzstrasse in Schoneberg, near Winterfeldtplatz, that has run as one of the neighborhood's more inventive drinks rooms for over two decades. The space is narrow and dim, with a long bar along one wall, low tables and banquettes along the other, Chinese lanterns overhead, and Asian-themed decor that stops short of kitsch. The cocktail menu draws on Asian ingredients and flavors: yuzu, shiso, lemongrass, pandan, ginger, plum wine, and Japanese and Chinese spirits appear throughout the list. Small plates cover dumplings, bao buns, edamame, and occasional hot dishes from a small kitchen. The room holds around 55 seated and a dozen standing near the bar. The crowd is Schoneberg locals, after-work professionals, and visitors who have heard about the place through word of mouth; the tourist density stays low. Prices run slightly above neighborhood average: 10 EUR cocktails, 5 EUR beers, 4-7 EUR small plates. The bar opens in the evening and runs until 2 AM on weekdays, 3 AM on weekends.

Insider Tip

Full Review
Mister Hu has held its space on Goltzstrasse for more than 20 years and has refined its concept without drifting from it. The entrance opens onto a narrow room that runs deep; the bar fills most of the left wall, banquettes and small tables line the right, and Chinese lanterns hang at intervals from the ceiling. The decor is committed to its Asian theme without falling into caricature; the materials are dark wood, red silk, and subtle patterns, with just enough restraint to feel current rather than dated.
The cocktail program is the main draw. The menu splits between classics and an Asian-inspired section that works with yuzu, shiso, pandan, plum wine, lemongrass, and Japanese whisky. The Asian-flavored cocktails are where the bar earns its reputation; a pandan gimlet, a yuzu sour, or a plum wine old fashioned each demonstrate how the kitchen and bar are thinking together. The small plates menu is short but effective: bao buns, dumplings, edamame, and occasional hot plates covering noodles and rice bowls. The food is a proper supplement to the drinks rather than an afterthought.
Compared to other Schoneberg bars, Mister Hu runs a more considered program than most. Green Door on Winterfeldtstrasse holds a similar cocktail bar slot with a classic focus. Stagger Lee runs a classics-first New York approach. Mister Hu differentiates through the Asian ingredient focus, which no other nearby bar attempts at the same level. The room has aged well; 20 years of operation shows in the seasoned service and the confident pacing of the evening rather than in any tired edge.
For a practical visit, walk-ins work on weeknights and early weekend evenings. After 22:30 on Friday and Saturday the room fills; a short wait is common but not long. Tabs open easily and service is paced to a proper evening rather than a quick turnover. Tipping follows Berlin norms. The bar takes cards fluently.
