Augusta 2068
Augusta 2068 is a dive bar on the upper stretch of Rua Augusta, above Avenida Paulista in the Jardins-adjacent section. The address is the name, and the simplicity extends to everything about the place. The interior is a single room with a bar counter, mismatched stools, and a jukebox loaded with classic rock, Brazilian rock, and a handful of punk and new wave records. The walls are covered in stickers, graffiti, and band posters accumulated over years. Draft beer is served in tall glasses from a single tap, and the selection does not extend much beyond that and bottled options. A shelf behind the bar holds basic spirits for shots and simple mixed drinks. There is no food menu, though the bar keeps a jar of pickled eggs and a bowl of peanuts on the counter. The bar stays open until 5 AM on weekends, making it one of the latest options on the upper Augusta strip. The crowd is a mix of neighborhood regulars, off-duty bartenders from nearby restaurants, and late-night wanderers who need one more drink. The owner is a grizzled rock enthusiast who controls the jukebox with authority and will engage anyone willing to discuss the Rolling Stones or Raul Seixas.

Insider Tip
Feed the jukebox if you want to hear something specific; the owner respects requests but will override bad choices. The draft beer is the only sensible order. This is a cash bar at heart, though they reluctantly accept cards.
Full Review
Augusta 2068 is a holdout. As the upper section of Rua Augusta fills with craft cocktail bars, design restaurants, and concept stores, this dive bar sits on the same block it has occupied for years, serving cheap beer and playing classic rock as if nothing has changed.
The jukebox is the heart of the place. Loaded with vinyl and CDs (the owner refuses to switch to digital), it holds a collection that spans from the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin through Brazilian rock legends like Raul Seixas, Titas, and Legiao Urbana, with detours into punk and new wave. The owner takes music seriously and will comment on your selections, positively or negatively.
The beer is cold and cheap. Draft at R$10 per glass is roughly half what the cocktail bars on the same block charge for a beer. Bottled options are available for a couple more reais. Shots of cachaca or vodka run R$8-12. There is no cocktail menu, no wine list, and no pretension.
The interior is a time capsule. Stickers plastered over every available surface, band posters yellowed with age, and graffiti that may or may not be from customers. The bar counter is scarred and stained. The stools wobble. This is not manufactured authenticity; it is the real thing.
The late hours are the bar's most practical feature. When the Jardins restaurants close and the cocktail bars wind down, Augusta 2068 is still pouring. The 3 AM to 5 AM crowd includes off-duty service industry workers, insomniacs, and people making poor decisions about one more drink. The atmosphere at these hours is quiet and slightly surreal.
The location on upper Augusta puts it in a safer zone than the clubs on Baixo Augusta. The surrounding blocks are well-lit and patrolled, with foot traffic from nearby restaurants and shops. Walking to and from the bar is reasonable until late, though Uber is still recommended after 2 AM.
Augusta 2068 will not change your life. But on the right night, with the right song on the jukebox and a cold beer in hand, it is exactly where you want to be.
